Pencak Silat Draws Record Participation at Batang Pinoy GenSan 2025

Pencak Silat continued to gain momentum at the Batang Pinoy GenSan 2025, with a strong turnout of young athletes from across the Philippines. According to event data, 47 Local Government Units (LGUs) participated in the pencak silat competition, represented by 1,073 athletes competing in both tanding (sparring) and seni (artistic) categories.
The competition venue, adorned with the official Batang Pinoy signage and pencak silat branding, showcased the sport’s growing presence at the grassroots level. The energy inside the venue was high as delegations from different regions arrived with their athletes, coaches, and supporters.
“The level of interest from LGUs is remarkable. This is a strong indicator of pencak silat’s growth and future potential nationwide,” said the event organizing committee.
The Batang Pinoy program, organized by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) together with local government partners, is designed to identify and develop young athletic talent. With pencak silat drawing its highest participation to date, the sport is on a promising path toward wider recognition and integration in future national and international meets.
